An annual visit to Europe

I leave this Thursday 18th for Europe.

Each October I like to go and visit my sister near Canterbury.

She has lived on a farm near the village of Littlebourne, near Canterbury, for more than 50 years and I would not miss the annual  opportunity to visit with her and her large family. In previous years when our mother was alive and living in Canterbury I would either do a trip with her or attend the Canterbury Festival. The tradition of attending the Canterbury Festival with its concerts, talks and walks has continued and my sister Anne and I enjoy attending events together.

This year, as in two previous years, the visit coincides with an East and West Kent hunt fundraiser where horseback riders go for a cross country ride through various farms while others on foot do an organized walk. After this a farm feast is laid on by the family in an old oast. This means that most of my sister's four children, their spouses and eight grandchildren participate in organizing this event. For me it is also an opportunity to meet up with several old friends whom I knew in my youth before emigrating to Canada nearly 50 years ago.

This year after that I am off to Barcelona and Madrid. I will be posting a diary and photos every few days.
